Chapter Eight
Lissa
stared at the man standing on her doorstep, and promptly slammed the door in
his face. A moment later, Alex knocked on the door. She opened it again.
"What do you want?" she asked without preamble.
"We need to talk," he said, trying to ease his way inside.
"Really?" she asked, arms folded across her chest.
"You're not going to make this easy, are you?" he sighed.
"Any reason why I should?" she asked, tapping one foot. "I do
recall telling you 'no'."
"But you were so wet..."
Lissa shook her head. "No means no, Alex. Not, 'oh please fuck me,
Alex'."
"Would it help if I said I'm sorry?"
Her dark eyes narrowed. "Are you?"
Alex closed the distance between them. Staring down into her eyes, he said
softly, "I am sorry."
She smiled. "Good," she said, and kicked him in the groin. Her grin
widened a little as Alex doubled over in pain.
"What the hell did you do that for?" he asked, clutching his crotch.
"No means no, Alex," she spat, then slammed the door in his face. She
stormed away from the door, and threw herself down on the couch.
The door banged open, and Lissa jumped. Alex limped into the room. "I'm
not going anywhere until we settle some things," he said, crossing the
room.
In spite of herself, Lissa leaned back into the couch when Alex stepped in
front of her. Seeing the sudden flash of fear in her eyes, Alex sighed.
Dropping to kneel in front of her, his hands resting lightly on her knees, he could
feel her tension. "Lissa, baby," he said softly, "I am so
sorry." She didn't answer, but her tension did ease the slightest bit.
"I know you were mad at me, but you did want me." He sighed as her
dark brows narrowed. "Still, you're right...no means no, and I should have
stopped, but I couldn't. I wanted you so much, and you were so wet and
tight." Her eyes narrowed again, and he hurriedly continued, "Baby,
I'm so sorry. Please forgive me, and we can start over again...do it right this
time." His dark eyes implored her. "Please?"
He felt the tension drain out of her, and her lips curled into a slight smile.
"I did want you, Alex." Her fingers trembled as she caressed his
cheek. He leaned into her touch, and she added softly, "do want you."
"So, we can start over?" he asked hopefully.
In answer, she leaned forward, and placed a tremulous kiss on his lips. When
she pulled back, Lissa smiled, and said, "Hi, I'm Lissa."
Alex gave a shout of laughter, and pulled her into his arms, hugging her
tightly.
The phone rang, and Lissa pulled out of Alex's arms to reach around him to pick
the phone up off the coffee table. "Hello?"
"Lissa? It's Kat."
"You don't have to check up on me, Kat, I'm fine."
Lissa distinctly heard Kat's snort of disbelief. "Be that as it may,"
Kat said, "I have some news for you."
"News?" Lissa asked. A shy smile curved her lips as she watched Alex
climb up onto the couch next to her. "What news?"
"I just talked to Howie, and it seems your Backstreet Boy is on his way to
see you. Howie said that he saw him at his house, and that when Alex heard that
you were hurt, he rushed right out."
"He did, huh?" Lissa asked, grinning at Alex. His answering smile was
full of confusion.
"Yes, he did, so he'll probably be showing up at any moment." There
was a slight pause. "Maybe you'll tell him the truth of what happened out
there last night."
"He's here, Kat, and he knows what happened last night," Lissa said,
watching Alex's cheeks pinken guiltily.
"So when are you going to tell me what happened?"
"When I can," she answered evasively. "Look, I've got to go,
Kat. Can I call you later?"
Kat gave a long suffering sigh. "You know you can call me anytime, Liss.
Be careful."
"Oh, I intend to," Lissa replied, then hung up the phone. "This
time."
"This time what?" Alex asked.
Lissa shook her head. "Never mind. Now, about starting over..."
"Baby, I swear I'll never..."
He gently pulled her hand away, then placed a soft kiss across her knuckles. "I promise I'll never hurt you like that again."
Lissa rose from the couch, pulling him up with her. "Walk with me," she said, tugging him toward the sliding glass door.
"On the beach?" he asked as she shut the door behind him.
"No, on the moon, of course on the beach," she laughed, dragging him along behind her.
